eMalahleni licensing office closed amid safety crisis

The Department of Community Safety and Security Liaison will be in eMalahleni on Monday to evaluate the situation at the licence office.

The eMalahleni licensing office was closed yesterday, July 17, after a water pipe burst causing massive flooding in the eye-testing room and public waiting area.

During a visit to gather more information about the situation, the office’s dilapidated condition was discovered.

Office is ‘structural time bomb’

The employees don’t just face administrative challenges; the building is a structural time bomb, and there are many safety hazards posing life-threatening challenges for employees and the public.

According to a notice displayed at the office, the facility will remain closed until further notice.

Witbank News reached out to the Department of Community Safety and Security Liaison, and the spokesperson, Moeti Mmusi, said he will personally visit the office on Monday (July 20) to inspect the office before he gives an official media statement.
