Three men caught with R100 000 copper stash in Kromdraai

Three men aged between 42 and 63 are expected to appear before the eMalahleni Magistrate’s Court soon after police found copper wires worth more than R100 000 in their possession during a patrol in the Vosman policing area.
According to Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane, members of the Anti-Hijacking Task Team were conducting patrols in crime hotspot areas on Tuesday, July 29, when they proceeded into bushes off Kromdraai Road.
The area is known to police as a location where hijacked or stolen vehicles are often stripped or concealed.
Ndubane said officers spotted a bakkie with Gauteng registration plates emerging from the bushes and decided to stop and search the vehicle. During the search, police discovered a large quantity of copper wires.
The occupants were unable to provide a satisfactory explanation for possessing the wires and were arrested on charges of possession of suspected stolen property.
Police seized both the copper wires and the bakkie as part of the investigation.
