Phola SAPS urges community to unite against drug abuse
SAPS and LDAC engage residents on the dangers of drug abuse and the importance of reporting crime.
Phola SAPS, in partnership with the Local Drug Action Committee (LDAC), hosted an Imbizo with residents from Phola and nearby farm communities at Vulindlela Street on August 4.
The community engagement focused on the serious impact of illegal drugs and substance abuse, while encouraging residents, families, and Community Policing Forum (CPF) members to work closely with the police in addressing drug-related crimes.
Speaking during the Imbizo, Sergeant Thabang Ntuli, Communications and Social Crime Prevention Officer at Phola SAPS, emphasised that substance abuse continues to affect families and communities in many ways.
“Drug and substance abuse does not only affect the individual using these substances; it affects entire families and contributes to social problems such as domestic violence, gender-based violence and pressure on community support services,” said Ntuli.
He urged community members to play an active role in fighting crime by reporting drug dealers and illegal activities to the authorities.
“Communities must work together with the police. Reporting drug dealers can help us remove criminals who target our youth and destroy the future of our communities,” he added.
The Imbizo also highlighted the importance of supporting young people affected by substance abuse through rehabilitation programmes and community-based initiatives.
Residents were further informed about the SAPS “Rate Our Service” online survey, the suggestion box available at the Client Service Centre (CSC), and the various services offered at the police station.
“We value the input of our community members. Their feedback helps us improve the services we provide and strengthen trust between SAPS and the people we serve,” said Ntuli.
