Two MMCs removed as Emalahleni Mayor reshuffles mayoral committee

Emalahleni Executive Mayor Cllr Vusi Nhlapo has removed two members of his mayoral committee and appointed new MMCs with immediate effect.

Emalahleni Mayor Clr Vusi Nhlapo has reshuffled the municipality’s mayoral committee, resulting in the removal of two members and the appointment of new MMCs with immediate effect.

According to a statement issued by municipal spokesperson Lebo Mofoekeng, Clr Betty Maphosa, who was responsible for the waste and environment portfolio, and Clr Sizwe Buthelezi have been removed from the mayoral committee.

The municipality said the decision followed formal consultations and correspondence between the Office of the Mayor and the relevant structures.

The reshuffle has also resulted in changes to several portfolios. The newly constituted mayoral committee includes Clr Hessie Maseko as MMC for corporate services, Clr Thabang Mathebula for technical services and Clr Nombuso Mokwana for waste and environment.

Clr Thembi Shabalala will oversee development planning and special planning, while Clr Lucky Tolo will be responsible for community services, and Clr Faith Khumalo will serve as MMC for finance.

The municipality cited Section 60 of the Municipal Structures Act, which provides the executive mayor with the prerogative to appoint members of the mayoral committee.

Nhlapo said the changes were aimed at strengthening stability and accelerating service delivery in the municipality.

The mayor also assured residents that the provision of basic services would continue and that municipal work should proceed without distraction.
