Laerskool Tasbetpark celebrates International Literacy Day with love for reading
The day’s aim is to highlight the importance of literacy to individuals, communities and societies.
Laerskool Tasbetpark hosted a literacy festival in celebration of International Literacy Day on September 8.
International Literacy Day is an international observance celebrated each year. It was declared by UNESCO on October 26, 1966, at the 14th session of UNESCO’s General Conference and celebrated for the first time in 1967.
The Tasbetpark festival was marked with debates, poetry, public speaking and reading in the school hall. Learners, teachers and parents came together to share why reading is still important in a digital world.
The school said: “What a powerful celebration of words at Laerskool Tasbetpark. Our learners shone bright through debates, poetry, public speaking and reading – proving that literacy is truly a superpower. Read today, lead tomorrow.”
