Mpumalanga wins big at AGA National Archery Tournament

The 10-year-old indoor cricket player continues his impressive sporting journey.

Three Mpumalanga archery teams were crowned national champions at the AGA National Archery Tournament in Jeffreys Bay after facing archers from all eight other provinces.

The development, primary school, and adult teams all took first place in their respective divisions on September 29, while the high school team narrowly missed out on a podium finish.

Mpumalanga team chief coordinator Ryk Gagiano said the provincial archers performed exceptionally well.

“The results speak volumes about the talent, hard work and dedication within the province,” Gagiano said. “We are incredibly proud of our archers and everything they have achieved at the national championships. Their division wins and countless hours of practice have truly paid off.”

A decade of growth and official recognition

This year marks a significant milestone for AGA Mpumalanga Archery as the organisation celebrates its 10th anniversary.

“A decade of dedication, commitment and growth has brought archery in the province to an exciting new chapter,” Gagiano said.

Adding to this milestone, 2026 marks the first year that AGA Mpumalanga is officially part of the Mpumalanga Sport Confederation.

“Archery is now recognised as an official school sport in Mpumalanga, opening new doors for young athletes and creating opportunities for more children to discover and participate in this rewarding discipline,” Gagiano said. “Archery is a sport for everyone.”
