A ship is safe in harbour, but that’s not what ships are for.
How safe are we really?
If you had to think you wouldn’t be able to precisely say unless you went through an event where your safety was threatened but even then, how safe do you really think you are?
Reading this you might think that I am prophesying doom and gloom but I realised that we are all oblivious to our surroundings.
I have a theory that certain events or things will never bother you until it is either needed, or experienced and the same goes for crime and murder in particular.
A previous work colleague of my wife was gunned down earlier this week for a hefty sum of money where the criminals followed him home after he made the withdraw.
Unbeknownst to him, that would be his last day on earth.
Reading that headline in the paper we can scuff and say ‘shame that’s horrible’ and go about our days.
We have become so sensitised to murder, the act of taking anothers life for either material or personal gain that it has become ‘page 9’ news in our minds and just because it doesn’t affect you personally, doesn’t mean crime isn’t happening all around us, every single day and I don’t know about you dear reader, but I believe we were born to live our lives, not just survive it.
I made a promise after the birth of my daughter to protect her to the end, whatever it may take and the funny thing is, I wouldn’t hesitate to do anything in my power but then again, we are just living one day at a time and I pray the day of survivng doesn’t come.
