Movie adaptation of eMalahleni

I have been thinking about the public opinion of eMalahleni as seen by the rest of South Africa, and for obvious reasons it can’t be very positive, so Brian concocted a brilliant idea about making a movie adaptation of eMalahleni to bolster public opinion.

I mean we make movie stereo types and clichés all the time and form unrealistic expectations and views of things so why not get in on that?
Imagine the trailer for a movie about eMalahleni as directed by Michel Bay. A fade in with ominous music of a city thrown into chaos by corrupt alien overlords (hey a little exaggeration never hurt anyone). Then cut to the hero shot as the ‘administrator’ clad in a leather jacket and Ray Bans, standing in front of a torn yet proud American flag (if you are going to watch a Michel Bay movie for accuracy then you should go somewhere else).

He then jumps into action defeating the alien overlords one at a time. The first has the ability to create huge holes on any tarred surface, another has the cosmic power over illegal power connections and sub station vandalism. Yet a third alien mastermind can magically put taxpayer’s money into his personal account and by exotic ‘company cars’.

The Administrator with his trusty sawed off shotgun, and samurai sword defeats them in single combat while dishing out perfectly timed action hero one liners like, “It’s time to administer a beat down!”

Like all over the top action movies it ends with the mass alien horde landing in eMalahleni with our worse for wear hero reloading his gun before cutting to a large ‘to be continued’ thrown across the screen. Through the broken telephone that is the internet where everyone has a voice and the flood gates of information can’t be kept shut anymore we really need to make sure what we hear and see are facts.
I was thinking about what Facebook does to fuel misinformation sometimes, or chain messages we receive on our phones.
Personally I don’t know how a movie like that will affect our public standing but it could be worse. It could be a romantic comedy.
