It’s a(lmost)live

It sounds like that, but it’s actually this

I’ve always found that when it comes to sound and music that we all have our style and genre that defines us from the first time we discover a new band or artist right up to our old days sitting on the porch and enjoying the ambiance of your favourite tunes. But what if you found out you were being lied to? Buddy my very fat puppy was lying on the tiles (because the heat is so unbearable) and as soon as I called his name, he is up and ready for action. He knows my voice, he grew up with my voice, he likes my voice and if my voice suddenly had to change he wouldn’t know how to handle it and probably end up liking someone else who “sounds” good to him. Unfortunately we as humans tend to overlook things like that.

There are a few things in life that grinds my bones, actually there are three things: Firstly, animal abuse in any shape or form. Secondly, people who brag about their lives and try and make you believe them and then thirdly, an artist that performs “live” and doesn’t actually sing live. That is my biggest peeve not because I myself sing, but because they are robbing people of hard earned money and “lying” to their ears. There are people who can barely afford food but they’ll purchase tickets to listen to a CD recording with them dancing on stage.

I was at the Aardklop National Arts Festival with my band and we performed 5 shows during the course of the festival and besides enjoying every single moment we were subjected to a group that not only decided to lip sync their voices, but every single instrument as well. That’s like going to your supermarket and buying a photograph of eggs to make breakfast, it just doesn’t make sense. Imagine coming home to your animals and your dog suddenly turned into a cat but still barks at you, I’d be concerned to say the least. Buddy is none the wiser about my rantings but I like to believe that he feels the way I do, I mean he wags his tail when I sing so hopefully that means something.

Like all things in this wonderful world of ours everything is driven by money and the companies with their artists want more money so sacrificing the artistic integrity to make a quick buck is the norm and I am perfectly ok with that, we all have to make a living and provide for our families but what happened to honesty? Are they so scared to give the singers a real microphone that people could actually hear them?

Well yes they are, because they might just start barking.
