We can hold on tight to our heroes, but inevitably time will take them back.
Albert Einstein fathered the theory of relativity and the time perception field of study in saying that each living organism experiences time objectively and differently, exactly why some days feel like it’s dragging along while others fly by, it’s all relative. Buddy, my properly sized dachshund is almost 6 years old and it honestly feels like it’s been only 2 years. I still sometimes doubt a lot of things I experience everyday like it being April already and just yesterday I was screaming “Happy New Year” welcoming 2016 into my life. Along with time comes change, and that’s the harshest of realities we face…
2016 has given us a lot but has taken its fair share as well. We lost Professor Snape Alan Rickman an actor of note to cancer. We said goodbye to Ziggy Stardust AKA David Bowie musical great and parted ways with Prince Entertainer extraordinaire to name but a few and as much as we would like to hold onto our “youth” by keeping our idols in our lives, time won’t allow it. Besides these disheartening and saddening happenings, the thing that troubles me more is who will follow in their footsteps and cement their names in the book of legends? Do we have enough artistry and creativity in our lifetime to create new legends to look back on when we are grey and old? I think so. See the thing with brilliance is that it is a lot like weeds; you can try and crop it out and destroy it but it will always creep into the nooks and crannies and grow back stronger and better. I’m not singling out the entertainment industry but all industries in our lifetime from science to economics and everything in between. The brilliance needs to be nurtured and fed instead of having our social dumbing down interfere and causing people to lose hope in their quest for greatness.
Time is fickle and we take it for granted always saying “tomorrow is another day” and never thinking is might not be. The best advice I heard was to focus on short term goals and handle them all instead of chasing your dream because one day, when you finally achieved your dream you might just be too old to actually enjoy it.
Buddy’s stomach is growling and its only 9am which means he thinks its lunch. His perception is very different from mine but yeah, an early brunch sounds good to me.
