Monday, bloody Monday

Peace never comes alone. It always brings its friend chaos along.

Peace never comes alone. It always brings its friend chaos along.

After a busy weekend of running around trying to save the ceiling from collapsing from the hailstorm we experienced, my wife and I were sitting just taking it all in. In the peak of the storm we felt like it can all be lost, but after it passed we could actually breath again and actually laughed about how we almost had to purchase a canoe to navigate our home. Fast forward to Monday and that’s when we saw how peace and chaos coincide.

The #BlackMonday movement was held all across the country and abroad in support of the increase of farm murders in our beautiful country. I held my reservations about wearing black because I was once one of the cynical people who held the belief of ‘what good would it do’ and ‘it doesn’t matter at the end’ but after I, myself wore black and saw how people of all races and all walks of life protested together, peacefully may I add I felt it…hope.

Of course with every movement you get people who want to politicize every single thing in our country and that they did. Thankfully it didn’t take away from the core movement and people dispersed afterwards and went home. But before that could happen, chaos had to make an appearance. A truck heading towards Witbank collided with the protest after failing to brake in time and caused injuries and major damage. Like wildfire the racial hatred and toxicity started spreading on social media platforms from all races.

White people saying “they just want to stop the protest!” to black people saying “God is good for taking the racists out one by one” and before we knew it, Monday became a bloodbath of words. People started to hate again and missed the point of #BlackMonday. This protest was never a racial thing instead it was turned into one quicker than you can churn cream into butter. This protest was about farm murders of all races and how it affects all the communities when our farmers are slaughtered from the man herding the sheep to the troll behind his keyboard spewing the venom.

Buddy was so relaxed amidst all the chaos of a flooding house that I envy him more now than ever. I wish I could also lay around and wait for change to happen, but unfortunately we have to actually do something to make it happen.
