The nicest of vices

Whether you smoke, drink or do gardening, we all have our vices we live each day.

Whether you smoke, drink or do gardening, we all have our vices we live each day.

Ok, so maybe the gardening thing is a bit of a stretch, but the wave of plant, flower and herb collectors that appeared overnight when Checkers launched the ‘Little Gardens’ was insane to say the least. Sadly, I can report that my wife has been overtaken and now insists that all our groceries be bought there in order to finish the collection. I can’t fault her for her zealous drive, that’s one of the main reasons why I love her.

Kidding aside, we have vices in our lives and we live with them like shadows that follow us every day. They can manifest from physical objects like alcohol, cigarettes and chocolates right through to you as a human being and what you are, your moral fibre. It’s described as a ‘habit which is regarded as a weakness in your character’ and this is something we should all realise right now and start to accept: nobody is perfect and we are all broken in some way.

Robberies are the norm in our city and just this past Friday as I was sitting on the couch, a major shooting occurred at a shopping centre close by. The robbers botched the job and it got me thinking; what are the vices that drive them to go to those lengths for money and for crime in general? Do we all have this in us to go to those lengths? Would I be able to rob a bank?

Liah is waking up and already looking for her bottle to drink before she’s even fully awake. Man, these vices start from a young age.
