Inspiration and motivation is like deodorant; once a day will do you wonders.
Sitting on the couch with Buddy playing around and Liah laughing at him, my wife and I got to talking about the future and all the things we still want to do. Travel the world, accomplish new goals, further ourselves and the more we talk the more excited I start feeling. But then a familiar feeling starts to take hold of me… procrastination. Not all at once, but slowly it creeps into my mind and I start pushing things to the side without even realising it and compartmentalising into levels of urgency. I start to become lazy.
I have always been a dreamer. I can visualise my future and see how bright it is but sometimes accomplishing the smallest thing might feel like the biggest battle because of how we approach the uphill in our lives. When you have a child, your priorities change and get less important because of the little poop monster sitting and smiling at you and that is fine because raising your child should be at the top of the list. But how often do we lose ourselves and what we want when it comes to the future? Why do we often just settle for what we have and not what we could have?
I’m not talking about family or loved ones, I’m talking about the woman who painted in her younger years and now can’t bring herself to pick up a brush because she feels ‘not good enough’. I’m talking about the singer who stopped serenading the crowds because he felt his time has come and gone. I’m talking about putting your inner child away.
So to make a point of it, I’m going to try and not put things off for tomorrow and start seizing the opportunities despite procrastination because we all have an inner child and we should let them out every now and then. As they say, growing old is mandatory but growing up is optional.
