After a R1.2 million upgrade to the golf course, Witbank Golf Club is excited to welcome club members, corporates and celebrities for the re-opening of the golf course on National Braai Day.
Meet your favourite Steval Puma Currie Cup Rugby players on the day along with their coach Jimmy Stonehouse, who recently led the Pumas to victory over the Cell C Sharks and the Toyota Free State Cheetas. Various other celebrities such as actor Altus Theart, best known for his role as Fafa in “Getroud Met Rugby”, will also be playing golf and be available for a handshake or a selfie.
Players are invited to test their skills against local Pro Renier De Beer as well as some of the local junior players, coached by Witbank’s Junior Pro, Leon Botha. Some super prizes are up for grabs on the day, sponsored by Protea Hotels, Umbhaba Lodge, Glenburn Lodge, Van Loveren wines, and Eyesquared Optics, just to name a few.
An auction of celebrity items will be held during prize giving dinner, led by our own self-taught auctioneer Allan Shelver.
“The 18 greens were completely rebuilt, the sand bunkers re-designed and we upgraded their drainage system”, Stephan Mynhardt (Club Chairman) explains. “Trees were cut down and the fairways re-sculpted – all part of the manicuring process of the course. The sprinkler system was upgraded to ensure correct watering and to incorporate our environmental water saving policy.”
Professional advice was provided by Grass consultant and fertilizer expert from Scientific Turf &Sportsfield Consultants, Dr At Schoeman. With his assistance visitors and members can now look forward to a strong, healthy and disease-free golf course. “Without the generous financing provided by Alex Barkhuizen and Pieter van Biljon from Nedbank, we would never have been able to complete this project,” a grateful Mynhardt remarked.
Only a few four balls are left for this fun family day and company sponsored T-boxes will all feature a National Braai day theme. Bring family and friends to enjoy the day out – a specially dedicated kiddies corner with a jumping castle and kids activities will be available on the day, courtesy of Emmie’s Jumping Castles.
Witbank Golf Club is and has been open to the public since the upgrades started, but officially launches the new look Club to the public on National Braai Day, September 24, with an open day golf celebration.
