Tragic fall from grace
As the day ended people made their way to their different destinations and hoped to see all their loved ones again.
Some did not make it home due to the heavy rains that wet the roads on Friday.
Two wheels against the tar came to a halt when a VW Polo came from nowhere and collided with the motorbike. The driver was allegedly sent flying through the air before reaching his fatal stop. He fell hard and hit the ground, although he had his protective gear on, it was not enough to save his life.
On January 24, at about 19:00 a pedestrian walking along the road in Watermeyer street, said he noticed the bike just before it was hit. “The driver seemed like he was losing control of his bike. The next thing I saw was the bike lying on the ground with the driver next to it,” said a shocked pedestrian. A woman who identified the driver on the scene, cried uncontrollably and felt powerlessly as she realised who lay under the cover of the paramedics’ foil blanket. “Sbusiso, Sbusiso” was all she uttered upon seeing the lifeless body of the biker.
The biker Sbusiso Mnisi, was allegedly on his way home to Middelburg when the incident occurred. People gathered around the scene of the accident and whispers asking who it was, broke the silence that came over the intersection of Watermeyer and the N12 off/on-ramp.
The biker belonged to the Rebel Troops bikers club in Middelburg, previously Coal Train Riders and also the VW Golf Cruz. A small memorial service was held for him by his club members, in remembrance of the person that he was, on Sunday, January 26. His colleagues at Komati Power Station held one for him on Thursday, January 30 at 14:00. His friends and family described him as a person who was always happy and laughing and making jokes with everyone, he was also very peaceful and liked calm.
‘MaLuggage’ as he is best known, has surely left a gap in the hearts of many and this gap can’t be filled, he was a brother and role model for his siblings. “My child was only 24 years old. “This is a big loss to the family and his friends, his colleagues as well as the bike clubs he rode with. I just want justice for my son from the driver who hit him, it won’t bring him back, but it will give us peace as a family, knowing that justice was served,” said Nelly Masuku, his mother.
The police are looking for more information regarding the accident and would like anyone with information pertaining to this accident, to please call Captain Eddie Hall on 013 655 5049.
Sbusiso ‘MaLuggage’ Mnisi will be laid to his final place of rest on Saturday, February 1 and the service will begin at 07:30 at the OR Tambo Hall in Mhluzi, Extension 7. The congregation and entourage of bikers, as well as the VW Golf Cruz will lead the proceedings from his home to his final resting place. They will leave for the burial site at 09:30 where Mnisi will be laid to rest at the Aerorand Cemetery in Ext 8.
