K-ya is a hip hop artist, piano producer and songwriter from Phola in Ogies.
He was born as Michael Nkosana Mavuso on October 29 in 1990.
K-ya’s musical talent began as a rapper in Mehlwana Secondary School and during a demo recording, he realized that he has a talent in producing through the role and the impact he made during studio sessions.
K-ya and his friends established a group called Rhyme Invaders in 2006, and they partnered with a group called BZ.
K-ya and his group members had high hopes to get exposure, but with time the group members went different ways.
They used to perform at church doing gospel hip hop and in talent shows, rallies and school events.
In 2008 K-ya recorded his demo, a single titled ‘Mpumalanga Rize-uP’ which was freestyle.
Most people from his community liked the song and continuously requested for a music video.
Through motivations from his local fans, he continued doing music as his hobby at his home studio.
This year (2020) K-ya has decided to start his own record label, Mp Rize 2230, which he has recently released; his first album titled: ‘Izibongo’.
The album is about the after-effect of lockdown level 5.
He has worked with his four-year-old son Lwethu and his spouse Nomcebo Mavuso among others.
The album was released on Monday, October 19.
