Five tips to help you take control of your curls this spring
With this hair care guide, you are going to fall in love with your curls…and banish frizz.
Getting a grip on your curly hair can be particularly tricky during spring time, as we often have to deal with a mix of leftover, dry winter air and those ever-increasing humid, almost-summer days. Give your hair all of the goodness it needs to look and feel its best right through spring with these five tips (and a product shopping list to get you on the right track):
- Protect your hair when you’re outside
We all know about the sun’s harsh UV rays and the damage they can cause to our skin…same applies to your hair. UV radiation can lead to dryness, breakage or even heat damage, so cover up your locks to keep them safe and healthy. - Go for lighter products in spring
Warmer weather calls for light-weight products. Choose a sulphate-free shampoo to avoid stripping your hair of its natural oils, followed by a hydrating conditioner. Finish off your hair routine by adding a lightweight cream to keep your curls looking their best. - Protect dry and damaged hair
Hair feeling dry or coarse? Curly hair is prone to dryness because of its shape: it is more difficult for the scalp’s naturally produced oil to travel all the way down the length of the hair along a curl, which is why curly hair tends to get dry from mid-lengths to ends. A hard working leave-in conditioner is your friend in need. Also look into adding a deep hydrating treatment and apply it on a weekly basis. - Mind the sweat
Warm days can leave you feeling sweaty, which means your scalp needs a little extra cleansing to remove build-up and bacteria to keep your scalp healthy, which can encourage hair growth and improve the overall condition of your hair. - Keep frizz under control
Higher humidity can lead to frizz and less manageability, as your hair will absorb moisture from the air which increases each strand’s diameter. The trick to keeping frizz under control is using products containing emollients like shea butter and natural oils, that may help minimise frizz and shield your hair from the humidity.
