Over 45 boys rescued by Vosman SAPS amid initiation school concerns

The Ingoma Forum has outlined the correct procedures that must be followed before a child is admitted to an initiation school.

Vosman Police have raised serious concerns about the rising number of missing person cases in the area, many of which involve young boys allegedly being taken to initiation schools without the consent of their parents.

Station Commander Brigadier Lindani Ndlovu has urged community members to remain vigilant, warning that recruiters are targeting boys between the ages of 12 and 21.

Since the start of the initiation school season last weekend, Vosman SAPS has already rescued about 45 boys who were lured into these schools without proper procedures being followed.

The Ingoma Forum, established to monitor incidents related to initiation schools, has outlined the correct procedures that must be followed before a child is accepted. These include a completed parental consent form, a medical screening form from a clinic or doctor, a confirmation letter from the initiation school principal upon arrival, and a verification letter from a doctor. Without these steps, the admission of a child is considered unlawful.

Police have emphasised that when an underage child goes missing and evidence shows he has gone to an initiation school without consent, a case of kidnapping should be registered. The Ingoma Forum will be alerted, and members of the Ingoma Task Team will investigate and approach the school involved.

Community members are strongly encouraged to report all bogus initiation schools operating in their areas. Authorities have stressed that any incidents related to initiation schools should be directed to the designated officials for assistance.
