Cops shut down unlicensed liquor outlets in Mkhuze

The operation resulted in the arrest of 10 suspects for various crimes

Police in Mkhuze have shut down five unlicensed liquor outlets following a high-density operation in the area.

SAPS spokesperson Captain Sbusiso Mkhize said the operation involved officers from Mkhuze, Ingwavuma, Jozini, Ndumo, as well as local traffic police and private security companies.

“The operation focused on the recovery of drugs, illegal firearms and dangerous weapons, as well as contravention of the Immigration Act, suspect raiding and illegal shebeens,” he said.

Mkhhize said the operation resulted in the arrest of 10 suspects for various crimes, including possession of dagga, road traffic offences and dealing in liquor without a licence.

“Five unlicensed liquor outlets and illegal shebeens were closed down, and various liquor products were recovered as exhibits,” said Mkhize.

The suspects were expected to appear at the Ubombo Magistrate’s Court today (Wednesday).

SAPS uMkhanyakude district commissioner Major General Mduduzi Shezi applauded the officers for the results yielded during the operation, and welcomed the arrests and recoveries made.

“Targeted efforts to raid and close shebeens in uMkhanyakude District is a way of controlling the illegal unlicensed trade and its associated crimes,” said Shezi.
