Stricter safety laws for RBM
The mine has done a re-induction process, compulsory for all its employees.

A TRAGIC fatality at Richards Bay Minerals (RBM) last year has prompted the mineral sands mine to set stricter safety resolutions for 2014.
Since the death of a heavy mobile equipment operator at RBM’s Mining Pond C in November, the mine has done a re-induction process, compulsory for all its employees.
‘We are committed to zero harm this year and hope to ensure last year’s fatality was indeed the last,’ said RBM Communities and Corporate Relations General Manager Fundi Dlamini.
‘Management has had lots of internal engagements with our employees to improve safety at RBM.
‘We have implemented sessions to discuss any general operational issues and employees have been using these as a platform to expose safety hazards they have encountered.’
Dlamini said other resolutions for the mine this year include celebrating the country’s 20 years of democracy by hosting an event for its former bursary recipients in September.
‘We want to encourage these professionals to return to their high schools and share their visions as role models to the youth.’
‘Any other annual happenings will also be themed according to national events,’ Dlamini said.
