A family business
with national impact

JT CABINS celebrates a decade in business this year.
Named after owner Craig Chetty’s family, parents and sibling, this successful family business provides diverse, factory-built solutions ranging from quality, pre-fabricated units and multi-storey modular homes, to commercial and government buildings nationally.
Chetty is a business enthusiast with years
of construction experience. His father, Teddy, owned a construction company, which gave
Chetty the necessary skills and knowledge to
start JT Cabins.
He continues to work closely with his father, who is the company’s managing director.
When asked about the driving force behind
his company’s success, Chetty said, apart from his employees, his family is his biggest motivation.

Expansion of JT Cabins' services

JT CABINS was founded in 2013, at a premises in Ceramic Curve, Alton, which owner Craig Chetty rented. Initially, the staff complement consisted of 20 employees, who Chetty acknowledges as the inspiration behind this sustainable business. The company now operates from eNseleni, with 100 employees. Long-serving staff members are Xolani Dumakude, Sabelo Ndlazi and Siyanda Mpanza, who have 10 years of service and are still going strong. When the company first started, its services were limited to importing mobile classrooms and modular building material from China. Today, it is a fully-fledged manufacturer of single- and multi-storey modular homes, as well as mobile commercial and government buildings. The business supplies prefabricated units, specialising in pre-built units and the erection of on-site prefabricated structures, which include mobile offices, stores, clinics, ablution facilities, classrooms, security rooms, cold rooms, chillers, canteens, mess rooms, general mobile units and any customer specifications on request. JT Cabins are also specialists in the manufacturing and repairs of these units, with services including both sale and rental options. In addition, the team manufactures insulated panels, IBR roof sheeting and structural lip channel, with distribution of all products through a large network of communities, retailers and builders. “You’ll find JT Cabins built structures in rural neighbourhoods, urban districts, and everywhere in between,” said Chetty. He added that his company prioritises excellence and perseverance, irrespective of the challenges associated with the pandemic.
He said JT Cabins has grown from building classrooms to mobile kitchens and has taken on big company rental partnerships. Within South Africa, JT Cabins supplies companies with diverse solutions such as mobile accommodation units, clinics, consulting rooms, laboratories, classrooms, offices, kitchens, ablutions, training centres, mining camps, and more. Chetty said the company has expanded its classroom manufacturing from producing only 10 to approximately 200 in a year. By investing in machinery, the company now takes on bigger projects, with its largest modular building project a 32m decanting facility.

Success and the future

BOASTING a decade of success in the industry, JT Cabins continues to vigorously expand the business and its territory.
The company has earned an excellent reputation over the years, with the branded fleet carrying mobile units to all corners of South Africa.
The company’s sponsorship of much-needed public services, such as mobile clinics in needy communities, has also made a huge impact.
Operating according to the company’s vision, ‘To spread our services throughout the world and become the market leader in South Africa’, owner Craig Chetty said the goal is to expand across borders.
The company’s mission is, ‘Devoted to provide individual solutions to every client’, and JT Cabins caters to its customers by delivering their unique specifications and offering customised solutions.
Chetty’s motto truly aligns with the company’s values: ‘Customer first, honesty and transparency, quality service provision, integrity and respect, reliability and socio-economic empowerment’.
He said the growth of the company is because it delivers what customers want on time, and they run the business with pride.
“Time is important to us; time is money,” said Chetty.
He said the company is still standing, irrespective of competition: “Never let anything stop you; if there’s no work, you look for it.”
The company landed its biggest contract this year with one of the largest companies in the country – a clear indication of the success of consistency in business.
