Farewell to Hospice stalwarts

Hospice bids founder members farewell

A DOSE of sadness, a pinch of regret and a full helping of gratitude summed up the farewell given by Zululand Hospice to two of its founder members who are ‘moving on’.

Jo James and Peggy Sclanders were hugely instrumental in the growth of the organisation over the past 21 years and their efforts were roundly applauded by acting board chairman, Thami Ndlela, at a function held in their honour at Hospice House in Empangeni on Wednesday.

‘For the past 21 years you have dedicated your time, energy and lives towards the sick and terminally ill patients, without expecting any remuneration.

‘That shows the love and care you have towards people. In addition, your contribution to the organisation’s policies and strategies has been immense,’ Ndlela told the pair.

‘Your participation in various sub-committees is what brought Zululand Hospice to what it is today, a body that is financially stable and that has created numerous job opportunities while giving comfort to so many.

‘We have been through thick and thin together, with many changes and tough decisions, and you always showed a positive attitude.

‘As you pass on the baton to new, incoming board members, we express our sincere appreciation to two exceptional women who answered their unique personal calling in the form of service to others.

‘On behalf of the board members we say a bittersweet goodbye as you both relocate and we wish you every future blessing,’ said Ndlela.
