Jozini Mall set to open next month
The first large retail centre in northern Zululand - Jozini Mall - officially opens its doors on 24 October.
CONSUMERS in northern Zululand can look forward to the first large one-stop retail centre in the region with the launch of the new Jozini Mall next month.
Opening its doors to shoppers on 24 October, the 18 200m² shopping centre aims to meet the consumer demands of a community, which has largely seen an undersupply of national retail in its local CBD.
At a capital cost of R140-million, Greater Atlantic Properties (Pty) Ltd is the owner and developer of the new mall, which will be leased by specialist retail leasing and development company – Retail Network Services.
‘The eager demand from retailers to take up shops in Jozini Mall reflects the consumer potential in the community,’ said Gavin Tagg of Retail Network Services.
‘Jozini CBD faces space limits and hasn’t been able to expand with the town’s growing population. There’s little retail choice and limited national retail in Jozini. This is an excellent opportunity for a shopping centre development that truly connects this community with desirable, modern retail,’ said Tagg.
Jozini Mall will comprise 61 shops – anchored by a 3 000m² Shoprite, matched with a relevant mix of retailers including convenience, furniture and fast food – supported by over 400 parking bays, 36 taxi bays and eight bus bays.
It also brings to town over a dozen of South Africa’s leading fashion retailers including among others Truworths, Identity, Jet, Edgars Active, Pep, Ackermans, Exact, Power Fashion and Rage. Standard Bank, Nedbank, African Bank and Capitec have also committed to the mall.
National furniture retailers include Joshua Doore, Ellerines, OK Furniture, Lewis and Barnetts.
The mall will benefit a market of over 42 000 households in its primary and secondary catchment area. Nearly 106 000 people live in the primary catchment area and around 135 000 people stay in the secondary market zone.
Jozini Mall is on the main road to the Jozini CBD, about two and a half kilometres from the town centre, next to a housing development in one of the most densely populated areas of the region.
‘This ideal position and visibility heightens its attraction to both shops and shoppers. This small town plays a big role in the region. Synonymous with Lake Jozini, formerly Pongolapoort Dam, it is on the main route to Mozambique and provides a gateway into Maputaland,’ added Tagg.
