CHALLENGING the community to boost low blood supplies was City of uMhlathze Speaker Cllr Mvuseni Mnqayi when he made his regular blood donation at Richards Bay Blood Donation on Friday.
Blood stock levels countrywide are critical with just two days of the required five days supply available.
Mnqayi, who donated his 29th pint of blood, said donors must visit the centre or mobile clinics ahead of the festive season.
‘We are heading towards the festive rush and there is an increase in road accidents and blood is needed for these emergencies.
‘As a former nurse, I understand the important role of blood to address medical conditions and really want to motivate the public to come forward and contribute.’
Meanwhile, blood donor centre representative Debbie Duff said there will be longer operating hours between 16 and 20 December.
The centre’s normal operating hours are 9am to 4.30pm daily and 8.30am to 1pm on Saturdays. For enquiries phone 035 7893610.
