MANY a game reserve visitor has spent days without seeing one animal of note.
After 36 years of countless such trips to Hluhluwe-iMfolozi, it was all worthwhile for Ria and Braam Lee of Richards Bay, who saw all the Big 5 on Saturday.
‘It started at Thiyane Hide at 8.30am,’ said Ria.
‘We the only two people in the hide, not even a bird, just two butterflies entertaining us.
‘Then we got a glimpse of the most elusive, shy animal, a leopard walking in opposite direction from us.
‘Luckily it stopped and looked at us, every time our cameras clicked; 60 seconds and he was gone.’
Well set on adding to that sighting, they continued and by 1pm had seen buffalo, rhino and lion.
‘On most of our visits we see plenty of elephants, but after another four hours of driving we encountered our first ellie in the distance at 5.30pm.
‘Wow, what a day. We felt like we were in Kruger, where it seems the leopards have somehow got used to the vehicles.’
