VIDEO: ‘Fed up’ Felixton sugar workers down tools

A petition has been forwarded to the head office in Tongaat.

SUGAR mill workers at the Felixton plant outside Empangeni downed tools this morning for a second consecutive day after talks with management reportedly deadlocked yesterday.

The protest action intensified inside the mill early this morning as fed up workers called for Tongaat Hulett Sugar Mill’s General Manager Pius Masinga to step down.

According to a petition handed over to management last week, Masinga has come under fire over alleged reports of poor management and abuse of power.

The petition has been forwarded to the head office in Tongaat and the matter is being addressed.

However, Tongaat Hulett spokesperson Michelle Jean-Louis told the Zululand Observer a short while ago that the strike action grievance related to various cost cuts, which had taken place over the past 10 months.
