Entrepreneurs boost Bay growth

Class of 2012 at the BHP Billiton Enterprise and Supplier Development Centre graduate.

IN only two years, six entrepreneurs in Zululand created 187 new jobs and generated a total of R94.2-million from their home-grown businesses.

This phenomenal success was nourished through an enterprise and supplier development programme, spearheaded and sponsored by aluminium giant BHP Billiton in collaboration with non-profit business incubator Raizcorp.

The business figures graduated from the course at the BHP Billiton Enterprise and Supplier Development Centre in Richards Bay, speaking proudly about their new-found knowledge since enrolling in the programme in 2012.

‘Before I started with this programme, I was flying blind and eating from my own basket,’ said Vikeleka Clothing Suppliers owner Bheki Mbokazi.

‘I didn’t have a business account; I didn’t have a self-image; I didn’t spend money responsibly or know about balance sheets and cash flows.

‘I’ve learnt so many things since then and I’ve learnt that success comes after patience, commitment, sincerity and hard work.

‘I want to thank our sponsors, BHP Billiton and Raizcorp for their time in helping us recognise our dreams.’

Sponsor Di Bonorchis wished the group well on their promising ventures going forward.

‘We back the jockey, not the horse. Because to ensure you win the race, you have to be a good rider.

‘This group has proven they have confidence, perseverance, drive and the ability to focus to achieve your vision.

‘To quote Louisa May Alcott – ‘Far away there in the sunshine are my highest aspirations. I may not reach them, but I can look up and see their beauty, believe in them, and try to follow where they lead’.

‘May your challenges be stepping stones and may you never lose your vision.’
