No shortage of enthusiasm

Lucas is just one metre tall and can barely reach the bonnet of most cars.

LEAVING the bright lights of Johannesburg behind, eSikhaleni-born actor Lucas Ngcongo (27) is grabbing the attention and hearts of many Zululand motorists.

He is the new ‘bowser boy’ at Caltex Richards Bay.

Lucas isn’t any ordinary petrol attendant. He is just one metre tall and can barely reach the bonnet of most cars.

Despite the odds, this bubbly young man has a passion for his job and attends to people with a big smile and friendly attitude.

‘I enjoy my job and the best part is that I meet new people every day. Some people are surprised when I stand at their window and some don’t even see me, but I am still so proud of who I am,’ says Lucas.

Looking smart in his tailor-made uniform and special step ladder in hand, Lucas does everything that an ordinary garage attendant would be required to do.

He says he is a talented actor and previously starred in Ezomdeni, aka Family Bonds, on SABC 1. He attended Dlamvuzo High School in eSikhaleni and matriculated in 2006.

‘Growing up, my height was a challenge as many children laughed at me and mocked me, but I forgave them and brushed it off as I know that God created me the way he wanted me to be. Today I am short of nothing because of God’s blessings.’

‘My dream is to become a famous actor and drive a Mini Cooper. One day I will be driving my dream car with the registration plate ‘2short4lyf-zn.’
