Setting a beautiful example
Two Richards Bay residents launch a 'clean and green' initiative.
The ‘clean and green’ initiative of two residents at the La Michelle residential complex in Richards Bay is changing the Pigeon Wood Road environment in Arboretum into a serene place of beauty.
Sarah Ngenwaya and Kay Govender have, among other things, planted indigenous trees at the circle and along the road in the area and make sure the plants are cared for. The traffic circle is now slowly changing from a dust bowl into a green haven.
The duo acknowledge the active support provided by the City of uMhlathuze, but would like the municipality to water the trees at least once or twice a month.
They also want more people join the campaign by not littering. ‘Every now and then we have to pick up bottles and all kinds of litter to keep the area clean,’ they say.
Other residents of La Michelle and Central Park complexes received recognition from the ladies for the respect and goodwill shown for the project which is not only making the area more beautiful, but will ultimately add to property value in the area.
