Zululand minister denounces fake Facebook account
Minister of Arts & Culture, Nathi Mthethwa has almost 5000 friends on his phony Facebook account.
ACCEPTING almost 5000 friend requests from the likes of Pravin Gordhan, Dipuo Peters and Peter Ndoro among several other high profile members of society, the Minister of Arts & Culture, Nathi Mthethwa has condemned the existence of a Facebook account in his name.
According to the Department of Arts and Culture office, Mthethwa was alerted by staff members about the existence of the ‘Nathi Mthethwa’ Facebook account and wished to distance himself from its use and content.
The bogus Facebook account boasts a profile picture of Mthethwa and his wife, Philisiwe affectionately gazing into each other’s eyes at their wedding last year.
To date, the page has attracted more than 4.901 friends and 2.566 followers.
‘I do not own a Facebook account and have not given permission to anyone to use my identity on social media. In fact, I do not know the identity of the account user,’ Mthethwa said.
‘I strongly condemn the use of my stolen identity and will take appropriate steps, including legal action to have this matter investigated and resolved,’ he added.
The fake account has since, been reported to Facebook.
