Sixteen injured as taxi overturns

Two people, including the driver, sustained critical injuries.

SIXTEEN people were injured on Thursday when the taxi in which they were travelling overturned and burnt out on the N2 near Bhobhoza Crossing.

KZN Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to the accident which occurred just after 6am.

Two people, including the driver, sustained critical injuries, Twelve were seriously injured, while two escaped with minor injuries.

All patients were treated and stabilised at scene before being transported to Hlabisa and Ngwelezana hospitals.

Owing to his serious injuries, police officers have been unable to interview the taxi driver, but he did tell officers at the scene that they had been on their way from Manguze to Durban when the taxi caught fire.

The driver said a passenger helped steer the vehicle, but they lost control, causing the taxi to overturn.

Soon after, the taxi became engulfed in flames and burnt out.
