CANSA plans ’11th hour’ relay

The CANSA Relay For Life will be on 29 August.

THE CANSA Relay For Life (RFL) 2015 Steering Committee held their first planning meeting, where the creative juices flowed as new and old members brain-stormed ideas that will ensure the best-ever relay.

The date has been set for 29 August and the major change will be the event times, which will now run from 11am to 11pm.

And in an attempt to swell the numbers and the proceeds, RFL 2015 will also accept ‘Virtual’ entries, enabling expats or any other person worldwide to participate through first paying electronically, then via postings of videos, photos and messages on Facebook.

‘We may even be able to have skype conversations with people in other towns or even overseas,’ said RFL Chairperson, Barbara Moscicki.

‘Our relay will also host an exhibitors’ arena that will allow companies and arts and crafters to book a stand at a nominal fee and market their services or sale of goods.

‘Another innovation caters for many members of the community who wanted to join previous relays, but could not manage to put together a team of 10 to 15 members.

‘This year, those who do not have a team but want to parttake in fund-raising activities and participate on the day can join the CANSA uThungulu Relay Team.’

The cost of entry for a team comprising 10 to 15 members is R500, while single entries will be R50 per person.

‘Members can make a R100 donation towards our Virtual Wall Remembrance and post a picture and message honouring the lives of loved ones, friends, colleagues or pets lost to cancer,’ said Moscicki.

‘We thank Dave Whittaker and the team at the ZCBF Community Park for making this venue available again free of charge.’
