Caring couple facilitates community flea market

Flea market to be held in Mandlazini this weekend

After being approached by residents of Mandlazini for assistance, Brackenham couple Jack and Tabitha Govender sprang into action, with great success.

At stake was the community’s desire to hold a regular flea market, such as the one that operates in Brackenham.

“We were able to assist them with gaining the necessary approval,” said Tabitha.

“We first approached the municipality on their behalf but were referred to the traditional authority, on whose land the flea market would be situated.

“After we made arrangements to meet the chief, we were directed to iNduna Sipho Nkuna, and explained how the residents need to sustain themselves and their households by selling handicrafts, plants, vegetables or baked items to generate an income.

“Mr Nkuna met with the trustees, and a letter of approval and permits for the flea market were issued to us, which we passed on to the residents who are interested in selling.

“As human rights activists, we are the voice of the people, and we will assist anyone who needs help with whatever issues they are facing.”

The flea market will be in operation from this Saturday, 13 June, only on weekends and public holidays, outside the Mandlazini community hall.
