THE Empangeni Rotary Club has joined hands with Swana School, handing over an assortment of toys and food parcels.
The school offers special remedial and developmental education for children who require additional attention to ensure development in essential foundational skills, and to assist them to enter mainstream schools, or the remedial school according to their needs.
Swana School founder, Director and Occupational Therapist Nomakaya Swana, assessed several children, finding that many due to early childhood circumstances did not have the essential developmental building blocks required to begin formal education.
‘Others were older, but still not coping with formal schooling owing to the lack of basic foundations required to cope in the regular education system,’ Nomakaya said.
‘These children would have been lost in the mainstream schooling system, with a bleak future the result.’ she said.
