THE business community stepped in quickly last week to assist in the fight to preserve the region’s endangered rhinos.
A need arose when a special anti-poaching task team from the Richards Bay’s Organised Crime Unit (OCU) were preparing to visit numerous scenes where rhinos had been killed over a period of time.
Their mission was to extract DNA samples from more than 100 carcasses using electric drills.
However, since they would not be near any power sources, they required cordless drills for the task.
While awaiting a donation of drills, what they needed was kindly supplied by Talisman Hire in conjunction with Hilti.
‘We appreciate this gesture and the contribution it makes to our anti-poaching efforts,’ said W/O Anton Steenberg of the OCU.
