Pupils become university savvy

Unizulu open day attracts over 800 potential students.

ATTENDED by pupils from far and wide, the University of Zululand hosted a successful open day on Friday which saw more than 800 prospective students flock to the main campus at KwaDlangezwa.

Hailing from schools in the uThungulu and uMkhanyakude districts, pupils from Elangwane High School in Mpumalanga were also among the interested.

‘The open day is one of the most important events on the university calendar as it not only gives prospective students a glimpse of the institution, but also serves as a platform through which the various departments can showcase the programmes they offer.’ said Director of Communications and Marketing, Normah Zondo.

‘The event ensures that the learners receive face-to-face career guidance to help them make the right choice for future studies.

‘Those attending also received information on the various services such as financial aid schemes. Apart from the more than 30 departments that exhibited on the day, the Cedara College of Agriculture was present as a guest exhibitor.

‘We would like to thank all the schools that responded positively to our invitation.

‘We extend our invitation to the schools not able to make it, to attend the career exhibitions in the following districts – uThungulu on 20-24 April; Zululand on 11-15 May and uMkhanyakude on 18-22 May.

‘They must consult with their district offices for further information.

‘Furthermore, as part of our community outreach programme, visits to local schools will be conducted to educate and provide pupils with promotional material on our programmes.’ Zondo said.
