WATCH: Teen group attacked at petrol station

Police watch confrontation with hands in pockets.

A VIDEO has emerged of a large group of thugs beating up a small group of teenagers, believed to be from Vryheid, outside a petrol station in Pongola.

The incident occurred at about 3.30am last Sunday and was filmed by a witness who asked for anonymity for safety reasons.

The reason for the attack is unknown.

The attackers can be seen repeatedly beating the youngsters with sticks and, according to the witness, were looking for sugarcane cutters with which to continue the attack.

The witness said Pongola police officers were notified and rushed to the scene immediately, but failed to intervene.

‘They just watched with their hands in their pockets,’ said the witness, who was told by security guards not to film the incident.

The witness’s main concern was that police officers saw fit to not intervene in an attack so violent in nature.

Pongola’s SAPS Station Commander has viewed the video footage and instigated a disciplinary enquiry.
