Fordham captures top spot

Local business owner and photographer Gavin Fordham, is the new Beachcombers Photography Club president.

PUTTING his love of photography into focus, Empangeni resident Gavin Fordham is setting the benchmark as he takes on his new role as the Beachcombers Photography Club President for 2015.

‘This is a huge opportunity to give back and develop other photographers,’ said Fordham.

Born and raised in Zimbabwe, he moved to South Africa with his family where he attended Pinetown Boys High School. He then did his National Service before joining the Edgars group.

His move to Empangeni in 1994 resulted in him meeting his current partner Nikki Cox and taking over ownership of Dial-a-Movie.

While running the business, Fordham used photography as an outlet and over the last seven years, has taken his interest to a new level as he creates astounding images with his vast knowledge in the field.

‘I joined the Beachcombers Club five years ago, which allowed me to improve my images and turn my outlet into a rewarding interest.’

Fordham also began sharing his knowledge by giving private lessons on the basics of photography.

With the title of President under his belt, Fordham hopes to serve two terms (three years each) at the club.

‘The club offers the perfect opportunity for aspiring photographers to better their skills in the field, as well as receive constructive criticism from professional judges and their fellow members,’ said Gavin.

‘We have monthly themes and competitions, and often host guest speakers who are able to add a more personal touch to the lessons.’

‘All this adds great value to the club.’
