Community organisation tackles child abuse

New NPO launches anti-abuse campaign targeting schools.

NEW Non-Profit Organisation, uThungulu Care Centre (UCC), is championing the fight against child abuse through a wellness campaign launched at Bay Primary School on Tuesday.

The campaign is supported by King Goodwill Zwelithini’s Bayethe Trust Foundation and the Department of Social Development.

UCC Director Gloria Naidoo, together with foundation ambassador Princess Mukelile Zulu and social workers, initiated open dialogues with Grade 7 pupils, urging them to speak out against child abuse, violence and drugs.

Naidoo aims to work with local organisations to tackle issues affecting the youth.

Princess Zulu, who promotes awareness of issues especially affecting young girls, said, ‘Our purpose is to encourage youngsters to know their bodies and recognise when an action is harmful or uncomfortable for them.

‘Even those you love or family members can hurt you and you must not be afraid to tell someone you trust.

Bayethe Trust Foundation CEO Rhana Naicker commended school Principal Mr V Moodley for taking the initiative in approaching the UCC to conduct awareness programmes in the school.
