Water sprays sky high as meter thieves strike

City responded quickly to a massive water fountain gushing from a broken pipe on Ngwelezane Road, Empangeni.

AN attempt to steal a water meter on Ngwelezane Road failed earlier today, and left the City to foot a hefty repair bill.

Residents contacted the municipality about a 7-metre fountain of water gushing from a pipe, and city employees found that the pipe connecting the water meter to the main line had been broken off.

A plumber arrived at about 15.45pm to stem the flow and the would-be water meter thieves were nowhere to be found.

Read more about this in the Baywatch Eyethu which hits the streets on Wednesday.
