Unizul students lend a helping hand

University students spend 67 minutes at local school to start a food garden project.

EXCHANGING their pens and notepads for spades and shovels, University of Zululand students joined Vulindlela Primary School pupils to start food gardens.

Aimed at educating the young minds on the environment and the importance of self-sustainability, the varsity students also used the opportunity to commemorate Mandela Day.

School pupils were also given free haircuts, entertainment and a warm meal.

Chairperson of the University Students Society, Refilwe Mofokeng, said they hoped to continue making a difference in young lives in every way possible.

‘This was our third project this year,’ she said.
