Hope for stranded Unizulu students
Amid national protests over student accommodation, Unizulu seeks proper accommodation for Richards Bay students

CONTRACTS to secure a further 140 beds for stranded University of Zululand (Unizulu) students are being finalised this week.
The university agreed to immediately find suitable and affordable accommodation for students at the Richards Bay campus following a meeting between management and student leaders last week.
This after students voiced their frustrations over unresolved accommodation issues by chanting and singing inside the campus and refusing to attend classes, just days after the university’s official opening.
‘Issues of student accommodation were discussed at the meeting,’ said Unizulu Institutional Support Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Neil Garrod.
‘Both parties recognised the shortage of university residences across the country.
‘Unizulu is building more residences and plans yet more for the future, but this medium to long term solution will not help immediately.
‘Hard work on behalf of the students and officials has enabled a further 140 bed spaces to be identified and contracts are currently being finalised,’ said Garrod.
