The loaf of bread that never expires

Albany Bakeries has issued a statement following the distribution of some loaves that seem will never expire

A LOAF of Albany bread might be the best option when it comes to keeping your sandwiches fresher for longer.

It appears as if Albany Bakeries has found a way to make bread that never expires.

A photograph of a loaf with an expiry date marked 30 February 2016 has circulated on social media.

Needless to say, consumers were rather impressed (and confused) at the exceptional quality of the loaf.

Albany Bakeries, a division of Tiger Brands, confirmed that they had mistakenly distributed approximately 400 loaves with an incorrect date stamp.

‘There was a mistake with a setting on our stamping machine, resulting in the loaves being distributed with an obviously incorrect date stamp that refers to a non-existent date.

‘The correct best before date should have been 1 March 2016,’ said Albany in a statement.

‘When we realised the mistake, we recalled the loaves immediately.

‘Most of the incorrectly stamped loaves were secured, but of course a few of them were beyond our grasp.’

The statement went on to urge consumers in possession of incorrectly stamped loaves to exchange their product for a correctly stamped item at the store they purchased it from.

‘This was a simple human error and we can only apologise for any confusion it may have caused.’

Twitter, of course, reacted:
