Call for meeting as water crisis deepens
Felixton residents have spoken out after months of water interruptions in the village

OVER the past months Felixton Village residents have been sporadically reliant on water tankers to provide clean water as the school and surrounding settlements have seen their taps run dry.
‘Rumours have ranged from the problem being water rationing, to burst pipes or contaminated water,’ said Home Owners Association (HOA) Chairman, Russell Welsh.
‘This has not been helpful in our attempts to resolve the problems and to keep the community informed.’
He says on 19 May the HOA delivered a formal letter to the Municipal Manager requesting a meeting to discuss and clarify the causes and solutions to the problem. To date they have had no feedback.
‘As residents of Felixton and members of the HOA, we feel helpless and marginalised by the complete lack of urgency and communication from the Umhlathuze Municipality.
‘We would like to urge municipal representatives to meet with us and provide honest and reliable information regarding the repair to equipment and restoration of the water supply,’ said Welsh.
Ongoing
During the past two weeks the residents experienced 10 days of no water whatsoever.
Felixton College, a private school within the village with around 400 students, has installed water collection tanks and provided fresh drinking water for the pupils and staff.
‘The inconvenience and costs resulting from this crisis have been significant,’ said Welsh, who reiterated that the water disruptions affected not only residents and property owners within the village, but those who were settled around the outskirts.
