What to know before you vote
Voters will only be able to vote where they are registered and should not visit voting stations that are in a different ward or province.

IF you are not in the province or even hospitalised on 3 August, you will not be able to vote.
The IEC in uThungulu has again stressed that voters will only be able to vote where they are registered and should not visit voting stations that are in a different ward or province.
Even if a mishap or illness forces you to be hospitalised away from your home town, there will be no exception.
Local government elections are on our doorstep, along with canvassing candidates, and with this in mind we have sourced this and other crucial information every voter should know before stepping into a voting booth.
When and where
Voting stations will be open from 7am until 7pm, at which time the ballots will be counted before being taken to the central counting station.
There are different ways to double check where you are registered, so have a look at the infographics on this page to find which way would be best for you.
You need to take your valid South African ID document (green barcoded book, smart card or temporary ID) with you for positive identification.
What can I wear?
As a voter you are allowed to wear any clothing, even if it features political party insignia.
Only candidates and party agents may not display their party insignia inside voting stations.
What NOT to do
You are not allowed to photograph your ballot paper and you may not carry any form of weapon into the voting station.
Also, providing any false information to an IEC official is a criminal offence and one can be charged with fraud.
IEC uThungulu Regional Supervisor Thule Dlamini confirmed that police members would be deployed to every voting station to ensure the process goes without major incident.
‘If you are intimidated in any manner, members of the SAPS will be on hand to deal with it,’ she said.
She encouraged voters to immediately report any incidents without delay.
In our Monday edition, we will take you through the exact process you will be faced with when arriving at the voting station.
