BREAKING: Taxi overturns in Empangeni crash

at the Central Park intersection on Empangeni's Main Road

TEN people are lucky to have escaped with minor to moderate injuries after a taxi overturned after crashing into a car at the Central Park intersection on Empangeni’s Main Road.

Traffic officials are on the scene to divert traffic and clear the road.
Police have taken statements from the driver of a white Mercedes C180, who was heading towards Empangeni High School, as well as the driver of the taxi heading along the R34 towards Richards Bay.

In recent months the ZO has come to learn of incredible speeds by motorists along the R34 leading to the intersection.

Earlier this year a member of the Empangeni SAPS Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) lost her life on the same stretch after a truck lost control and overturned onto the vehicle she was driving.

The ZO is currently in the process of obtaining video footage from a source who claims to show people clearly jumping red lights at this intersection.
