Northern KZN ‘Weavers Hut’ entrepreneurs looking for support

The group is aiming to get to the Grahamstown Festival to trade

A GROUP of rural Mbazwana women who started a craft and weaving business in 2015, are appealing for funding for transport and accommodation to attend the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown in June.

The group is planning to visit the festival to trade and sell their products for the first time.

The festival will be held over 10 days between 29 June and 9 July, and attracts artists and enthusiasts nationally and internationally.

The group is confident it will be successful because their products are hand-woven, and are 100% organic because they use natural wool and cotton with genuine leather trims to make their bags.

‘Assisting us with funding for transport and accommodation will give The Weavers Hut the ‘kick-start’ it needs to get its name out there,’ said spokesperson Wendy Ayliffe.

She said the profits from sales will be ploughed back into the business and will also help pay towards transport and accommodation expenses to another festival they plan to attend in September.

‘Our objective is to establish a profitable business, and we aspire to play a role in social development within our community,’ she stressed.
