WATCH: Car on fire at a Richards Bay shopping centre parking lot

The fire could easily have taken hold and spread to other vehicles around it

QUICK-THINKING mall security guards, car guards and members of the public averted a disaster today (Thursday) as they used all resources available to prevent a car fire from taking hold and spreading.

The incident occurred at one of the Boardwalk Inkwazi Shopping Centre’s parking lots and was filmed by a passerby.

In the video, a Toyota Tazz is seen with its bonnet up, with plumes of smoke engulfing the car and those around it.

Mall security guards quickly arrived with fire extinguishers to put out the blaze.

As fires have ravaged parts of South Africa, it is in these dry, windy conditions that they can rage out of control very quickly.
