Bullion Boulevard invaded by vagrants
Businesses state grievances to municipal management has 'fallen on deaf ears'
RECYCLERS are bringing trolley loads of trouble to businesses on Bullion Boulevard in Richards Bay.
And after four months of reporting complaints regarding the sticky situation to the City of uMhlathuze Municipality, Bizhub Operations Manager Herman Vos said there has been no feedback or efforts made to put a stop to the dilemma.
In a letter addressed to Municipal Manager Dr Nhlanhla Sibeko last week, Vos said, if anything, the problem has ballooned.
‘We have sent several emails regarding a complaint about vagrants outside our office building.
‘The safety of our employees is now being compromised.

‘The emails mention that this problem has escalated since the bottle store opened next door to number 31 Bullion Boulevard.
‘We service digital photocopiers for both at the City of uMhlathuze and King Cetshwayo District Municipality, where we receive calls to assist after hours, and with the state of affairs as such, we cannot subject our technicians to the danger of entering our premises after hours with the loitering vagrants.’
To keep the vagrants at bay, Vos said without assistance from the City, they will have no choice but to erect security fencing with a gate closed and locked after hours.
City Communications Manager Mdu Ncalane said they have taken note of the issue.
‘The City will look into these complaints and engage with the relevant stakeholders, such as the Richards Bay SAPS, Community Policing Forums and municipal public safety structures to come up with a lasting solution.’
