BREAKING: Former ANC councillor gunned down in Mtubatuba

The local ANC branch has denied that the killing was politically motivated

FORMER ANC councillor in Mtubatuba, Bongani Msomi, was reportedly shot and killed last night (Saturday) at a Maskandi music event in Mtuba.

According to reports, an unknown assailant opened fire and shot Msomi ‘execution style’.

Msomi died instantly.

The 51-year-old was an ANC councillor in Mtubatuba between 2011 and 2015, but lost his seat during last year’s local government elections after campaigning as an independent.

There have been no arrests and no motive has been established.

Siyabonga Khumalo, ANC Chairperson in the Mtubatuba sub-region, denied that the killing was politically motivated.

Police are investigating the murder.
